YAY!
We are in New York! We arrived yesterday around noon to Great Kills Yacht Club in Staten Island, New York. It was quite the sight, when about an hour into our ocean trip from Manasquan yesterday morning, the skyline of New York appeared! We were still 3 hours away, but my sights were set on finally being in New York.
Several years ago, when the Great American Loop idea started getting thrown around, I envisioned myself crossing in front of the Statue of Liberty on our own boat! I literally would fantasize about how that would feel. I would read about Loopers making this trip up the Hudson River, and see their pictures of themselves, sometime selfies, sometimes photos taken by other Loopers from their boats. They would swap pictures and end up with an awesome shot of their boat and themselves in front of Lady Liberty. I’ve never been to New York, so this trip is particularly special to me. We are taking our time while we are here and are going to enjoy some adventures.
One very awesome event is happening for me in my life while I am here. My brother, Kelly, lives here in New York. I have not seen him for almost 5 years. His wife Joni and her mother are also in town. My brother has offered to show us the sites and take us on the tour of New York. His local knowledge will make this adventure so cool! He’s smart and funny and knows his way around. I know we will have a blast and I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us while we are here. Stay tuned for a complete run down on our New York Adventure in my next blog.
The Happy Destiny is sick. She has an oil leak in the starboard engine. My brother is the Vice President of Harley Marina Services here on the East Coast. They are a very large Tugboat and Barge service and he knows people! Today, just as promised, he and 2 of his employees, Matthew and Ryan, who are Master Coast Guard Engineers, showed up to our boat to see if they could figure out our problem. Our boat is way smaller than anything they work on. These young men are just amazing! They assessed the problem, tore it apart, and are ordering parts. It’s going to be ok. Jim and I are so grateful to Kelly. This really is the first issue on our boat that Jim has not been able to handle. We are confident that by the end of the week, we will be taking our picture in front of the Statue of Liberty!
Thank you Matthew and Ryan
So, coming soon will be my take on New York! Believe me when I say that I take none of this for granted. I’m am living a life beyond my wildest dreams and I still continue to pinch myself to make sure it’s real. Jim and I are doing great. We are so blessed.
peace and our love. ❤️
These are pictures from our first evening in New York. The gentleman I’m standing with is the Harbor Host here at GKYC, John. The swans and the geese were awesome, and the cute young man on his knee, is proposing to his girl. It was so cute!
