Visitors!
I’m so happy! My youngest daughter Aimee, and her two youngest children, Grace and Zeke, paid us a visit for a week. They live in California. It was the kiddos first plane ride, and Aimee’s first real vacation in many years. She has dreamed of a “white sand” adventure for a very long time. She was not disappointed.
Their trip began at Los Angeles International Airport. I was concerned about the long travel day they were about to experience. A momma, a 5 year old and a 4 year old- an 8 hour journey. Aimee is such a trooper. I knew she would have everything under control, but still, 2 little ones, masks, no food service and a very small seating area made me nervous. I kept telling her to buckle up for a very long day. She assured me she used to it, now that she is a single mom. She sent me these pictures from the airport.
Thank God for tablets. They kept the kids busy for the whole trip!
Jim and I picked them up about 8:30 pm in Tampa. It was so awesome to see my girl.
Today was also Jim’s Birthday. I made some cupcakes, and when we got home, we all sang Happy Birthday!
Their first day here we hit the water! We packed a lunch and headed out. All of them were so amazed at our water here on the Intercoastal Waterway. The water is so beautiful and we went looking for dolphins. The kids had a ball!
So fun! We anchored on a sandbar! The little ones could not believe what we were doing. They could touch the bottom and squealed when it started to rain!
Jim watched the kids that night and Aimee and I took a drive down Casey Key Drive. We ended up at the beach and shared a moment. It was beautiful.
Back when Jim and I were on our trip to Massachusetts for Robert and Stephs wedding, I was looking at the Turtle Beach Camping Ground website and saw that they had a couple of days available for the time period Aimee and the kids were going to be here. It is almost impossible to get a site at this campground because it’s right on the beach. I told Jim they had two days open and he told me to book it. So I did.
We took the RV over on Monday and enjoyed 2 full days on the beach. We had a great time. We sat in the sun, the kids played in the water. It was a really fun time! Aimee and I actually went to the water after the kids had gone to sleep and took a night swim. It was badass!
Aimee bought us both a Wave bracelet to remind us both of our adventures here in Florida.
We spent the next few days swimming, boating, and just enjoying each other’s company. I have to admit, having the little ones here was really a joy. They are noisy, and very busy. We played games, watched cartoons and I answered many questions. We collected seashells. Grace got brave enough to swim with no swimmies! It was a very big deal! These kids, both of them, were a bit terrified by the water when they got here. To see your grandchild move into trust mode is so exciting!!!!
Aimee and I went alone to Siesta Beach, where the sand is white and the water is as warm as a bath. I posted a few of the pictures at the top of this story. We had so much fun that we brought the kids back the following day. The sand is like velvet and the kids had a wonderful time.
We went exploring and out for dinner one night. We climbed the Banyan trees, and walked out on the Venice Jetty. It was definitely a photo shoot!
The last night of our week full of adventure, I, without Captain Jim, took Aimee and the kids out on the boat. We went out into the Gulf and when we came back, I docked the boat like a badass!
It was a joy to have my daughter and the kids here for the week. I know they had a good time and I know for sure Aimee’s vacation dreams came true. She’s been through a lot this past year and she so deserved this get away.
Next time they come, hopefully Disney World will be open. The kids would love that!
Come back soon!
