All In

All In

So, the “quit your job, sell your stuff, live on a boat” mantra has been documented by Jim in our previous blogs. I was reading over them today and realized I haven’t added my two cents about this journey of ours.

I’m all in.

When Jim and I decided years ago that our dream of doing Americas Great Loop was really how we were going to spend our happily ever after, I got so excited. The thought of living full time on a boat and traversing the ocean and waterways with the man I love brought me great joy. How blessed am I that he chose me! I get to be a badass! The girl who lives her life on a boat!

A boat you say? How does a girl who has high heels and party dresses, 10,000 photographs, 4 Children, 8 grandchildren, knicks and knacks, treasures, and 50 plus years of the “stuff” you think you need to keep, because one day you are going to need it, transform into the girl who is now packing her life up into grey colored bins? Well, let me tell you- when you have a dream and the dream becomes a reality, you get “all in”. You tell your kids to take what they want, and you make a small box for yourself of the things, the pictures, your mother’s sapphire rings.  The fufu petticoat, the treasures you can’t possibly live without, one pair of black pumps... just in case.  And then...you start throwing shit away!

The more you throw away, the easier it becomes. If it doesn’t fit on a boat, it doesn’t have a purpose. You realize what a hoarder you have become. Because really, who needs 40 pairs of shoes, 12 pillows stacked in a corner of the closet, 6 different suitcases taking up space. Who really needs a drawer full of makeup, and 6 different kinds of hairspray. Who really needs 6 serving trays, 20 screwdrivers, 101 ink pens? Oh, and how about all those VHS movies, and the paperback books you have on a shelf that haven’t been touched in 20 years! We all have too much stuff. I’m getting rid of mine and it’s ok.  This “stuff”,I think I need, is just not important in the big scheme of my about to be very downsized life. I’m about to be living in a boat. Not a mega yacht. I will have a small bedroom, a small bathroom a small living area and a small kitchen. I will probably have a very small closet and a drawer or two.  And I will share this small space with Jim who has his own stuff he can’t live without. I’m all in.

YAY😂

I too, now, have given notice to my Employer.  I will be leaving the Emergency Room. My last day is February 13, 2018. “I Quit my Job”😎

I have been the Offer Up queen lately. We literally are selling or giving away most everything we own. Again, if it doesn’t fit on a boat...

So, the next step, Step 3, the actual living on a boat part of my journey is yet to come. Next week we are off to Florida to look at several boats. Hopefully we have done our research well and one of these boats will be our new home. If we don’t find what we are looking for on this trip, we are going to be homeless for awhile. How cool is that. Vagabonds. Living off the land! With our grey bins and our love for each other which I know will see us through to our Happy Destiny.

Stay tuned❤️
