300 Days
So, life after looping, is good.
Today is December 28, 2018, and we have lived aboard the Happy Destiny for 300 days. It’s hard to believe all that we have accomplished, all the sights we have seen, all the joy we have felt.
I am enjoying the settling in process. It is quiet and we are happy to be, where we call home. Jim is staying busy driving for Lyft and Uber. I think it’s a crack up! He makes his coffee in the morning and turns his apps on. Not 20 minutes go by, and the first “ping” comes to life and he is out of here! He is meeting some pretty interesting people and enjoying getting them safely to their destinations. Tonight he shared with me that he has a 100% positive feedback on both of his apps. Today he wore his Best Grandpa Ever T-shirt. Who wouldn’t like to ride with a guy like Jim!
We drove to Miami and had a meal with Peter and Giselle pre Christmas. Of course we got to visit with little Sebastian too. He is really growing! My kids FaceTimed us, as they gathered for their Christmas celebration in California. I got to visit with all the grandkids for a minute. Son, Robert, also FaceTimed from Massachusetts. He was spending his Christmas Day with his new love and her family. Christmas Day was really nice here on the Happy Destiny. Jim and I exchanged a few gifts, and had our traditional stuffing and egg breakfast. In the afternoon we went to the movie theatre and saw the new Mary Poppins film. It was just great! Afterwards we went for a drive. We ended up at the beach and took a lovely walk. Someone had planted a Christmas tree in the sand and built a sandman. It was the cutest thing ever. I could not pass up the photo opportunity! Check out the crab on top of the sandman!
It was a beautiful day! We ended up at a 6:00 Christmas night AA meeting, which wrapped up our day quite nicely.
While Jim is out driving, I am left here to hold down the fort. I have been for walks, I have fished, and I have cleaned out my closet. I got rid of everything I haven’t worn in the past 300 days. I seem to have my favorite pieces of clothing that I really do wear all the time. I hate to admit it, but I’ve packed on a few pounds since this journey began, so many of the clothes I brought with me from California just plain don’t fit anymore. Plus, I have become much more relaxed in my clothing choices. Everything in life has become pretty relaxed. Most days, I don’t even put on makeup and my hair goes into a poneytail. The miracle for me is that I’m really ok with this. Hard to believe the girl who used to have to have my hair curled, my makeup on, the shoes that had to match the belt, that had to match the purse, that had to match the nail polish color, now wears crocs, and am most comfortable in shorts, comfy dresses and yoga pants! Life is so simple.
I had a poster printed of our Great Loop Map. We are going to get it framed and proudly display it in our home.
This next week we will have the diver come and check out our jacked up propellers. If you recall, we grounded a couple of times here in Florida. We are pretty sure at least one of the propellers is damaged and will need to be replaced, maybe both. The good news is we have another set, so hopefully he can exchange them without us having to pull the boat out of the water.
I think Jim and I will just keep living this life one day at a time. It’s a pretty big change.
We hope y’all had a beautiful Christmas, and you got to be with the people you love most. And, as the New Year approaches, May you find all of your days filled with joy and happiness.
