All is Well
Another week is in our history book. Happy 2019!
I have promised myself that I would continue to write. It is good for me. Cathartic. Even though we are not out traversing the seas, planning an adventure or waiting on weather windows, we are living life - after the Loop.
We did pull the boat out. We went exactly 200 feet, to the marina pumpout! I must admit, I felt a bit out of sorts as we tied up to the dock. I had not forgotten how to do it, it was just not the way we normally tied up to a dock. We had left our lines secured in our slip, so it would be easy to get the boat secure when we backed in when finished. The lines on the pumpout dock were small little ropes designed to hold a 20 foot boat. The Happy Destiny is 42 feet, and a 4 foot rope is kind of small to catch with a boathook. Next time, I will bring my own line! It would have been nice to take off on a day cruise after the pumpout, but we are still waiting for the diver to come and access he damage to our props. The depth of water in this marina is very shallow. The diver came one day and told us that we needed to wait for a higher tide before he could get under the boat. Then, the holiday and his other commitments kept him from coming back. Hopefully, he will come soon, and we can get this issue addressed. I’m looking forward to getting back on the water, even if just for a few hours.
Jim spent New Years Eve driving for Uber/Lyft. Infact, Jim has been driving everyday! Seems he has found a job for himself! He says he is happy and I’m glad about that. I have to admit, life is pretty quiet for me while he’s gone. I try to keep myself busy, but really there’s not much to do. Life is pretty weird for me right now. I did manage to get Jim to drop me off at the beach one day. I spent 5 glorious hours soaking up the Florida sunshine! I love the beach. It makes me happy.
On Thursday, we drove to Palmetto, Florida, and had a nice visit and meal with Tom and Jody. They are one of the couples we befriended on the Loop. It was really nice to see them and be able to share stories with. I find this to be very helpful in my grieving process. I call a few of the girls I met on the Loop often. I love talking about the Loop and they are the only ones who understand me right now. The few ladies I call have also crossed their Wake, so they, too, are experiencing some of the same feelings that I am having. I’m trying hard to “just be”, “right here, right now”. I have been going to meetings and I did invite a couple of ladies from my Monday morning meeting over for coffee. It was nice. I know one thing for sure, I need to continue to stay connected to AA.
We were sitting on our deck the other day, when, Dave the dockmaster came by with a man named Kari. Kari owns a day charter boat. He takes people out to look for Dolphins, Manatee, and other coastal wildlife. He asked Jim if he’d like to work for him part time driving his boat. Driving a boat for hire requires the Captain have a license. Jim, who is a great Captain, does not have such a license. So - guess what? Jim is now going to Sea School!
I’m so proud of him. I think this is awesome! I know he’d much rather drive people around on the water than drive them on land. Plus, it never hurts to have an accomplishment under your belt! Today, Sunday, the 6th of January, is his third day. He is in St. Petersburg, which is an hour from here. He got an Airb&b and will come home tonight. I’ve missed him. He will return next Friday and complete the course on Sunday. Super cool!
Today he studies!
So, as you can see, there is life after the Loop. We are both trying to figure out how to incorporate ourselves back into everyday life. I got pulled over today for speeding! This certainly never happened on the Loop! The policeman was cool. He gave me a pretty good pass, and just gave me the ticket for no proof of insurance, which we do have. The card was not in the car. Oh well! Shit happens.
All is well in our world. Really it is. I’m still feeling like the luckiest girl in the world.😊
peace and our love,
❤️
