When life gives you lemons...
So...
Jim traveled to Florida last week to attend to the boat survey and sea trial. This is a very important part of purchasing a home that floats on water. The boat we buy, will be our home. There won’t be an apartment, a condo or house that we can go to if things get rough. The boat we buy needs to be solid. Needs to be in good general condition. Needs to be safe. Our home could sink if we make a bad decision.
Things didn’t quite turn out as planned with the survey of the boat. Unfortunately this boat had some very expensive repairs that need to be addressed. Jim and I want to buy a boat home that, at the least, will serve us well, right from the start. Boating, in general is a never ending series of things that need to be addressed. Engines, toilets, water pumps, fuel filters, electronics, bilge pumps...ad infinitum! There is an acronym for the word BOAT. “Break out another thousand”. We don’t want to start out our Happy Destiny with big issues. We put so much blood sweat and tears into the Mei Wen Ti. So many minutes of fixing this, and painting that. We absolutely reaped the rewards of that hard work, and I wouldn’t have changed a thing, but, I think, Jim and I need to be able to get the boat that just doesn’t need so much work. We need to get to our new home, sit on the aft deck, kiss, clink some sparkling cider, and say to each other, “We Have Arrived”!
So, we backed out of that deal and today put in an offer on our PLAN B boat.
She is a beauty also, and we are very excited. We will travel once more to Florida next week and go through the process of survey and sea trial on this vessel. Keep your fingers crossed.
Stay tuned.
