As I have shared with you recently, Jim and I have been trying to figure out our next plan of action. Living here in Osprey, on the Happy Destiny, is where we call home right now. We are happy here. Jim works and I do not. Yet, I find several things to keep me busy, most of the time. It does get a bit lonely here by myself, somedays. It’s so damn quiet!
We have decided to keep the Happy Destiny as our residence for now, but also believe, there is more to this nomadic lifestyle than just sitting still in a marina. There is a whole big world out there that we’ve never seen. It’s a bit difficult to see many of our United States by water. I think we did a pretty good job of seeing parts of the Eastern US on our Great Loop Adventure. We traveled through 17 states, and 28 townships in Canada, but I know for a fact we missed a lot of the backroads. The tourist sights. Monuments, the institutions, the peaks and valleys. I’m sure we missed the biggest ball of string, somewhere! Being without transportation on the Loop limits you to where you can go. I would have loved to spend more time in Georgia and Annapolis. I would have loved to stop at Westpoint on the Hudson. Skirting through on a boat is not the same as being able to explore the small towns. I remember when we took a road trip to Nashville, I was able to marvel at real cotton fields and had a lot of fun counting the Dollar General Stores. The pretty churches and the battlefields. Horses on hillsides and eating at roadside diners with the people of the valley.
So, drum roll please, - the RV, we have been talking about , is now a reality and has joined the Happy Destiny Fleet! We will be Trudging the Road of Happy Destiny, and plan on taking her out for a trial run in the near future.
Jim and I bought a 2015, 31 foot, Coachman Leprechaun a week ago. She’s very nice and we are super excited to see where this adventure might take us. We know for sure we will drive her to Columbus, Mississippi over Memorial Day week. We are going to an AA Convention. Back on our Loop, when we were in that city, we met a tribe of wonderful, kind people. They welcomed us into their AA club like we were family. They are hosting a convention which just happens to be called “Road of Happy Destiny”. They invited us to return and join them. With a headliner like that, how can we not!
We take delivery tomorrow, April 1st. We are hoping this is no joke, and that we made the right decision for the two of us. We have a place nearby to keep her stored. We will take her out in the next week or so and stay at a campground somewhere close by to check it all out. See how she works. See what doesn’t work! We will find out if Captain Jim can fix up an RV as well as he can fix a boat. I have no doubt that we will be just fine.
We’d like to take a trip back across the US towards California. Stop and see the kids and grandkids. Maybe load them up for a week of Grandma and Grandpa time. Jim has a bucket list dream of going salmon fishing in Alaska. I’m totally on board with that! Sounds like this could be another Epic Adventure!
It never ceases to amaze me how very blessed I am. Who gets to do this! I’m a badass nomad chick! The simple life. The very minimum. It can be done. We are doing it. If not now, then when?
I’ll keep y’all posted and up to date with our shenanigans.
